Recall that a nevus/mole is benign and melanoma is malignant.

Melanomas are common metastatic precursors for many other tumors in the body. They output S-100 as a tumor marker and physicians use the depth of the tumor or the Breslow thickness to estimate the risk of metastasis.

  • Asymmetry,
  • Border irregularity
  • Color variation,
  • Diameter >6mm,
  • Evolution over time

This question was testing the ability to use the above to diagnose malignant melanoma but also not to get anxious over the number of possible options.
