If we draw an imaginary vascular function curve that intersects at point E, we can then interpret each point as a movement of either the cardiac output or the vascular function curves. D on the Guyton gross plot would indicate that the vascular function curve has risen but the cardiac output curve has stayed the same which usually happens due to an increase in blood volume or preload. This is what results from a large arteriovenous fistula.
