This child has minimal change disease, the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in children. It is often primary (idiopathic) and may be triggered by a recent infection, immunization, or other immune stimulus. Histologically, there is a loss of negative glomerular charge and selectively loses albumin which is why this child also presents with proteinuria.
