I question this, most appropriate next step would be to investigate if they're safe at home. Because if he is abusive and learns more about the daughter's behavior and that the mom wasn't telling him (through family therapy), it could get ugly. If only it was an option

  • Family therapy is appropriate in this case because the father, mother and daughter could benefit from improved communication and coping strategies
  • Note: Family therapy is also effective in the management of a patient with schizophrenia (helps to educate family about symptoms, course, etc.)

Agree that this question sucks. Why not go for psychodynamic psychotherapy since the patient specifically says she would like to understand why she does these things? Not a great option but still...

Weird answer to a weird question. "She(the girl herself) doesnt understand why she does these things" made me think of some sort of Mania component.

charcot_bouchard  If a family berates a teenager for normal things she will question herself. Its the same thing seen in a homosexual teenager who will question normal developmental behaviour because its been told as improper. +1

Family therapy? Unless her issues are derived from her family in this case she needs behavioral therapy for her assumingly sexual behavior. Why would she open up in front of her dad about the dudes she being inappropriate with?

lindasmith462  why would a 16 year old need therapy for totally normal teenage behavior? and family therapy isn't gonna be about her telling the details (or lack there of) her sex life but builds on communication. I agree with the below commenters about neeting to do a safety check since mom said she needs to "protect her daughter" +4
