If his fat to carb calorie ratio is 30:55, he's going to get about 15% from protein (30+55+15 = 100).

Based on just that, you can estimate: 0.3 x 2000 = 600 calories (fat)

600 is closest to 630.

cheeseheadkids  It tells you the patient need 56g of protein (56g x 4 kcal/g) = 224 calories from protein. The remaining 1776 calories must come from fat and carb at a 30:55 ratio. 30 out of every 85 calories is fat, which tells you 35.3% of the remaining calories are going to be derived from fat. 1776 x .353 = 626 Can someone confirm? That's how I did it, but not all that confident it's actually right +21
ootscoot  How do you know that 30 out of every 85 calories is fat? +4
dhkahat  maybe im fucking dumb but since the answer didn't come out exactly that kind of rattled me, idk +1
zulmarimartinez  Get it wrong because i got stuck and randomly pick Protein ---- 56 g/day i.e. 224 calories (56 x 4) Total caloric intake = 2000 cal Out of 2000 cal, 224 cal are from protein, and the remaining 1776 cal are from CHO and Fat. Caloric intake from FAT and CHO combined is = 1776 cal Caloric ratio of Fat : CHO (30 : 55) 30 + 55 = 85 Fat: (30/85) x 1776 = 626 cal (this is closest to the option D) CHO: (55/85) x 1776 = 1149 cal +
pfebo  The reason why it is 30 out of 85 is because we need to substract the 15 of protein consumption from 100. +1
macroorchidism  I just did it by maintaining the ratio of 30:55 and fitting it into 1776 (the remainder after protein is subtracted). Started with 30:55 x10 = 300:550 (total of 850)...Not enough. Doubled it and it came close enough to pick right the answer 30:55 x20 = 600:1100 (total of 1700). So basically it would have been ~21x on each side to get you really close to the 1776 max allowance of calories between carbs and fat. ...Hope this makes sense cause it's late and I can barley see straight.#QuickMafs +1
vocifer  Knew the avg kcal / macromolecule. 4P/4C/9F. 56g protein x 4kcal = 224kcal. 2000 allotted - 224 = 1776 for Fat / Protein. Back to MCAT Math: Ratio of allowed fat:carb is roughly 2:1. Divide 1776 by 3, giving you the value of 1/3. ~2/3 (a little less) of this can be carb, and roughly 1/3 (a little more) can be fat. 1776/3 is 592. A little more is 630. +
vocifer  1776 for Fat/Carb* +

Answer by @cheeseheadkids is correct.
