beltorres23  Beta oxidation of fatty acids occurs within the mitochondrial matrix. The mitochondrial membranes are impermeable to fatty acids and rely on carnitine to shuttle them into the matrix. Elevated levels of malonyl coa inhibits carnitine acyltransferase, preventing fatty acid transport into the mitochondria and thereby inhibiting fatty acid oxidation. +5
