Hypotension, red rash, fever, shock = Toxic Shock Syndrome

TSS is associated with tampons.

To note - TSS is not as associated with sanitary pad use.

pallu_wiggy  FA20 Pg 135 - TSS results in inc AST, ALT and Bilirubin due to end-organ failure. +2
ih8payingfordis  I was between tampon and sanitary pad and here's how I reasoned it out (perhaps incorrectly). Tampons actually go inside while the sanitary pad stays outside the vagina. +1
an1  Tampons and nasal packings after epistaxis are big causes for TSS ~ classically presents with fever, desquamation of the skin of hands and feet, shock symptoms (hypotension, tachy) + fever +

on the tampon boxes it says don't keep it in for more than 4 hours or there is a risk for Toxic shock syndrome. you're basically packing a tube full of blood great medium for staph to grow in your body!

I got this right because of the presentation, but in two days this girl has used multiple tampons and multiple pads.... That would mean at the least one tampon and one pad per day, so no tampon in longer than 24 hours. Maybe she forgot about one from the first day.

But doesnt TSS spare the mucous, so I picked Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole thinking it could be steven johnson syndrome, I overthought it way too much!! Stupid point to lose.
